Walpole, MA - Walpole Express Captain James Varney has committed to Stonehill College in Easton, Mass. for the fall of 2016. The hardworking 5'9”, 175 lbs. winger from Oakland, ME is a natural leader with the ability to change the culture in any program. He will be a welcome addition to the Skyhawks, which play in the Northeast 10, both on and off the ice.
"I can't begin to explain how proud I am of James and his decision to attend Stonehill," said Express Head Coach Jon Lounsbury. "James has had a bumpy path as he had major hip surgeries in each of his last two seasons. Most young men would have given up if faced with the same adversity but James persevered. Now healthy, this year he has stepped up as a leader and as a player. That’s testament to his character. He has always possessed a strong desire to succeed and I have no doubt he will make a difference at Stonehill over the next four years."
“It’s a joy and an honor to have committed to Stonehill College,” Varney said. “I want to thank everyone in the Express organization for making my time here truly memorable. I especially want to thank my parents and my billet family for all of their support in helping me achieve my dream. I'm extremely excited to take the next step in my life at Stonehill. Go Skyhawks!”
“With great pride, the Express organization wishes James and his family the best as he tackles the next challenge,” Lounsbury said.
