Walpole, MA  - The Walpole Express EHL team is proud to announce that second-year goaltender Evan McCarthy has committed to Division 1 powerhouse Miami of Ohio. The Redhawks are part of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and play their games in the Goggin Ice Arena. The school is located in Oxford, OH

McCarthy played his first season for the Express last year after suiting up for the Kenai River Brown Bears in the NAHL. In returning to the Express for a second season, McCarthy became the backbone of the club’s early success. “Mac is the glue that holds the team together,” said Coach Jon Lounsbury. “He is a leader both off and on the ice and has the best work ethic I have ever seen.”

Goaltending Coach Clayton Adams has worked tirelessly with McCarthy to make sure he has the tools to succeed at the Division 1 level. “Mac is one of the hardest-working goalies I have ever had the privilege to work with,” Adams said. “He has consistently shown a level of effort that will make him a very good college hockey goalie.”

McCarthy thrives on adversity – a great quality in a collegiate goalie. “He seems to shine brighter the more the deck is stacked against him,” Adams said. “He is a technically sound goaltender who has been diligent about improving the nuances of his game. In the past few months I have seen a shift in his ability to manage games and direct the play toward his strengths – something that typically takes years to master. I am so happy that he has accomplished his dream of playing for Miami and look forward to his continued success this year and into the future. Everyone within the Express organization extends heartfelt congratulations to both Mac and his family.”

“I’m extremely humbled and proud to commit to The Brotherhood at Miami University next fall,” McCarthy said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of the support I have received throughout the years, especially from my family who has afforded me the opportunity to pursue my dreams. I can’t thank the Express staff enough for the time and effort they have put in over the last few months to help make my dream a reality. I will be forever grateful to my family and coaches for this chance.”
