Walpole, MA - The Walpole Express junior girls kick off the new season with a series of games this weekend. “We are so excited to get going,” said Coach Anya Battaglino. “The players have all worked really hard to prepare and I cannot wait to show everyone how great we are!”
Momentum for the girls’ program has been building, and parent support has been phenomenal. “We have been incredibly fortunate in terms parent support, as well as donations,” Battaglino said. “I just wanted to extend my utmost appreciation! Our Express parents are killing it!”
The donations coach Battaglino references are many. “We have several anonymous donors supporting us,” she said. “For instance, a secret sponsor donated new BAUER IMS 9 helmets, while another provided new white helmet cages so we all look uniform and stylish. You know what they say ‘look good, feel good, play good’. OK, play well." Other donations include a between-games team meal on Sunday, as well as team workout shorts and apparel.
Along with a new season come new leaders. Names of the team captains for 2014-2015 were just unveiled. Getting the nod are Captain Allie Damren, Assistant Captain Maura Kieft and Assistant Captain Kailey Jacobs. “We know these ladies are leaders and will help the Express succeed in the locker room and on the ice,” Battaglino said. “We have everything in place for a great season!”
The whirlwind opening weekend features three competitive games in Connecticut – one Friday and two on Sunday – as well as a tour of Connecticut College and a charity event for Need To Lead, both on Saturday.
