Walpole, Ma – Walpole Express netminder Nick Commesso has committed to Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. for the upcoming 2013-2014 season. Commesso joined the Walpole express this season after enjoying a great career at The Governor's Academy (formerly Governor Dummer Academy) in Byfield, Mass. “Nick is not one to shy away from challenges," said Express Head Coach Mark Kumpel. "He had many opportunities to play junior hockey and he chose to join a reigning championship team -- a team that also had the AJHL champion goalie returning for the season."
Commesso had to fight hard for his success in Walpole, according to Kumpel. "He met the challenge head on posting the fifth-best numbers in the league with 12 wins, 3 losses, 2 ties and a .916 save percentage. His efforts helped elevate the Express to a strong second-place finish," Kumpel said. "In addition to his technical skills, he is the consummate teammate. He led the team when he was between the pipes and supported it vehemently at all times. He is a pleasure to work with and I know he will have a great career athleticly, socially and academically at Assumption.”
"Assumption College is very excited regarding the commitment of Nick Commesso," announced Assumption Head Coach Lance Brady. "It is great opportunity for Nick both academically and athletically. We fully expect Nick to challenge for the starting goaltender position next year as a freshman. Assumption is not getting just an excellent goaltender, but also an outstanding person. We look forward to the next four years with Nick and his family."
