06 Premier Team Making Playoff Push

By @WalpoleExpress, 01/18/17, 12:00PM EST

Walpole, MA  - With little over a month left in the season we are playing our best hockey, completing a sweep of the first (Monarchs) and second place (Stars) teams this weekend. We have won our last 4 out of 5 games and are making a run at the playoffs.

One of the biggest reasons for our strong play is goalie Richie Hayes, who I feel is the best goalie in the league. He is such a great competitor and never has a bad game. He is really strong on his angles and is very quick.

The defense is led by Ryan Lin, who is the best player in the league. He is so strong on his skates and is a threat to score anytime he is on the ice. Josh Cohen is my captain and moved from forward to defense and has done a great job moving the puck and getting up the ice for scoring chances. Another defenseman who I moved from forward to defense is Brian Middleton, who is always in the right position and competes for every puck. Eddie Dietel is a big strong defenseman who has a great shot and can really skate. One of my most improved players is Connor Hayes. He gets better every game and was one of the best players on the ice this past weekend. Connor works hard and is a very smart hockey player.

Up front my forwards can fly. They are putting the puck in the net and competing hard all over the ice. The line of James Anastasopoulos, Ryan Magararu, and John Orsbourne dominated this weekend. James has more speed than anyone and when he gets going he dominates out there. John also has a ton of speed and puts the puck in the net. He is fearless. Ryan has improved so much and has a ton of goals over the past month. He was one of the best players on the ice this weekend.

The line of Nate DiMartinis, Nick Tosi, and Jacob Bonarrigo have been so consistent with their great play. Nate never has a bad game and can really fly. He is so smart with the puck and competes every shift. Nick is one of our leading scorers and is great around the net. He uses his speed to get open and fore-checks hard. Jacob is always skating hard out there and has made some awesome plays over the past month. He is always around the puck. The line of Nolan Miley, Mike MacDonald, and Ryan DiNicola had their best game yesterday. Nolan is really good with the puck and is a great stickhandler. He is a very smart player who sees the ice well. When Mike plays hard he can dominate out there. Yesterday’s game was his best of the year and he really back checked and went after the puck. Ryan is so smart and handles the puck well. He had a ton of shots this weekend and competed hard all over the ice.

We will continue to work hard in practice so we are ready down the stretch. We will be competing next month in the Watervillem, NH tournament. I am really proud of the kids and how hard they are working. Great job!!!!
