Walpole, MA - The 2003 U14 Premier Walpole Express (Guinan) entered the 2017 Goblet Thanksgiving Tournament after a holiday break with the intention of getting some games in before the second half of our regular season began.
Game one proved to be our “layoff game” as we were sluggish but managed to pull out a 1-1 tie vs the Boch Blazers, led by the strong defensive play of Ty Mcgovern.
Game two was a different story as the train got rolling and beat the Long Beach Lightning 4-0. Shea Donovan netted 2, Sean Guinan went bar down, and goalie Payton Foley rewarded his team with a shutout victory.
Game three was a very tight, physical match vs the Killa Beez that ended in a 1-0 victory for the resilient train led by a “duck sauce” (because its sweet, not like “soy sauce”, which is salty) SHORT HANDED goal from Aidan McInerney. Payton Foley stood tall again in the net notching his second shutout in the tournament.
Game four was a fast paced even battle that ended in a 1-1 tie vs the Providence Capitals. Strong team defense was key to ensuring this crucial point and a spot in the finals.
The final game was against the same foe as the night before, the Providence Capitals. The train went down early 1-0 but remained mentally tough and came out on top as the tournament champions in a back and forth contest. Shea Donovan got the game winner with 1:58 left on the clock in the third. Some smart defensive/hustle play by Chris Kajunski and Billy Parr would seal the 3-2 victory!
