EHL Premier Streak Ends, Experience Gained

Walpole, MA  - Although the Express Premier team's win streak came to an end this past weekend, the team enters into the Christmas Break with good thoughts. "This is a very young team this season, the majority of which have never played at this level," Coach Polino said. "I'm fairly happy with where we are as a group and know that it will only get better.  This weekends games show that."

This past weekend the team took on both the first and second place teams in the EHLP, the Boston Jr. Ranger and the Vermont Lumberjacks.

On Saturday the team took on the Jr. Rangers. After a scoreless first period it was the Rangers that would get on the board in the second frame and take a 2-0 lead into the 3rd. Ryan Miller (Buffalo, NY) would get the Express on the board early but ultimately it would not be enough as the Rangers would win 3-1 with an empty net. Christian Pelligrino (Arnold, MD) would play a strong game in net stopping 21 of 23 shots.

Sunday the team would partake in the EHL Showcase at Rodman Arena against the Vermont Lumberjacks. Jake Geller (Brookline, MA) would get the team on the board early, followed closely by a goal from linemate Aidan Cifrino (Hingham, MA). However, the Express would end the 1st period trailing 3-2. In the 2nd, the Lumberjacks would increase their lead to 5-2. The 3rd period saw what can only be described as a flurry of goals. Vermont would score first at 5:16, followed by a goal from Jacob Crespo (Eastampton, NJ) at 7:41. Mike Meredith (Fredonia, NY) would then score at 8:07 with Vermont scoring at 8:30, followed by another goal from Geller at 8:53. Vermont would score again at 9:38, followed by a goal from U18 call up Hunter Philips. Meredith would score again at 12:29 but the efforts would not be enough as the team would fall 8-7.

In their final game before the break the team would fall to the Lumberjacks again by a score of 7-3. The line of Meredith-Geller-Cifrino would have another strong showing, scoring 2 of the 3 Express goals.

The Express EHLP team enters their Christmas break with a record of 12-11-0, 24 pts; good enough for 3rd place in the Northern Conference. The team is lead by Ryan Miller with 29 pt (13-16-29), Nick Terry (12-16-28), and Mike Meredith (11-9-20). Christian Pelligrino has been strong in net.

The Express return January 6th and 7th with a rematch against the Vermont Lumberjacks.
