EHL: Express Stay Hot, Sweep Three Game Week

Walpole, MA  - The EHL team had a busy week leading into break as they hosted the December EHL league showcase at Rodman Arena.  Coming into the week the Express had won 6 of their last seven contests and looked to continue their strong play into the holidays.

On Tuesday the East Coast Wizards came to Rodman Arena looking to cast a spell on the Express offense. Austin Smith stood tall in net as the Wizards dominated the first 20 minutes of play. Larry Niland (Lido Beach, NY) would open the scoring for the Express in the second period and the team would never look back. Austin Smith (Oakland Park, IL) would stop all 45 shots faced and come away with a 5-0 victory. Niland, who was recently named EHL player of the week, would finish with 2 goals and 1 assist in the victory. Other scorers included Trevor Pray (Tonowanda, NY), Ryan Edgar (St Louis, MO), and Cam Sullivan (Weymouth, MA).

The team would have a few days rest before hosting their second league showcase of the season, which proved to be another successful event as teams saw over 75 NCAA coaches in 2 days of hockey. On Sunday, the CT Roughriders looked to even the season series with Walpole. Max Flynn (Wenatchee, WA) stopped 25 of 26 shots as the train rolled away with a 3-1 victory. Goals once again came from Larry Niland (Lido Beach, NY) with 2 and Will Lebel (St-Bruno-de-Montarville, QC).

On the Final day of the showcase, the Express took on a hard nosed New York Applecore club.  A high paced back and forth game had the teams locked at 2-2 midway through the game until Larry Niland (Lido Beach, NY) would score his 5th goal of the week off a feed from Chris Peters (Airport, NY). Austin Smith would turn away 28-30 shots for his 7th victory of the season. Other goals came from Ryan Edgar (St Louis, MO), Tyler Pietrzyk (Taunton, MA), and Bryan Colburn (Cumberland, RI).

"I couldn't be happier with this group right now. We have a lot of key injuries and everyone has stepped up to chip into the teams success," said Coach Lounsbury.  "This break is well deserved and I look forward to seeing everyone after the holiday."

The Express return to action January 6th and 7th as they travel to Vermont for a two game series.
