EWHC: Furfari’s Hattrick Helps Lift the Express To Victory

Walpole, MA  - This past Saturday the Express hosted the Kunlun Red Star at Rodman Arena for their first game of the Eastern Women’s Hockey Conference. The team started the season with a 5-0 shutout.

For a majority of the first period, the Red Star kept the Express to the outside making it difficult for them to find the back of the net. The Express kept pressing and would finally get on the board at the 7:23 mark when Hannah Murphy buried a rebound from new comer Ally Jurman’s shot from the point.

What a night it was for new comer, Elizabeth Furfari. Furfari scored twice in the second period to give the Express a 3-0 lead. Her first goal of the season came at 8:38 from Express’ captains, Cassidy McNeeley and Sami Barletta. Furfari got her second at 18:34, again from Barletta and Sam Molind.

The Red Star never let up. The third period was back and forth with even shots. The Red Star tried to generate more scoring chances by pulling their goalie but the Express capitalized. At 15:38, Furfari got her third of the game, once again assisted by Molind. Then at 16:13, Hannah Murphy got her second of the game with another empty net goal assisted by new comer, Alyssa Murphy and Barletta.

Goaltender Lily O’Neil earned her first shutout of the season. She was fantastic in net stopping all 23 of Kunlun’s shots.
