EHLP: Premier Split Opening Weekend, Announce Captains

Walpole, MA  - The Walpole Express Premier team split their opening weekend on the road against divisional opponents Valley Jr. Warriors. After two hard fought games, the team finds themselves in favorable position moving forward. “I like what our group had to offer this weekend,” Coach Polino said. “Its always interesting to me to see how guys react to their first game at this level.  We showed up and preformed really well right out of the gate.  Our team is young and eager to learn so the future looks bright right now.”

Game one of the season took place Saturday night at Haverhill Valley Forum. Although there was no score most of the game, the action was back and forth. Both teams battled to a 0-0 tie until late in the third when Brenden Sinclair (Frisco, TX) scored his first goal as a member of the Express. Not long after, Nick Terry (Taunton, MA) tallied again stretching the lead to 2-0. Christian Pelligrino (Arnold, MD) stopped all 35 shots in the victory.

Game two of the season saw the Express end up on the wrong side of things. “We got ourselves in a hole early, but I’m extremely happy with how the players responded” stated Polino. The Express found themselves down 3-0 early in the first. “We went into the locker room after the first and no one panicked, they were confident the game was far from over.” The team battled through the second, Ryan Miller (Buffalo, NY) would get the Express on the board early in the second with his first of the season. Soon after Gavin Maxwell (Norton, MA) would bring the Express to within one.  The score would stay the same through the rest of the game, and the Express would fall 3-2. “The guys played a solid game after those first ten minutes. I think we are on the right track and will only continue to grow.”

Before the weekend’s games, Coach Polino announced his captains for the 2017-2018 season. Nick Terry, Gavin Maxwell, and Eric Phillips (Orange County, CA) will serve as the leadership core for the season. “Last year I waited to announce my captains until later in the season, I was waiting for someone to step up,” Polino said. “This year was a different story, I felt it was important to get it out there right away. These three are guys I know I can go to when I need and example set. They already were taking control of the room from day one. Just time to make it official.”
