Walpole, MA - Lauren White of Westwood, Mass. and Meg Gilbride of Braintree, Mass. have committed to Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire where they will lace up for the Ravens for the 2016-2017 season. The NCAA Division II Ravens play in the NEHC.
“Our defense has been very successful this year and Lauren has been such a huge part of that success,” said Coach Danielle Doherty. “Lauren is one of our smartest defenders. She makes plays on the ice that leave me in awe. She knows the game so well. Lauren is quick and can really turn her speed on when she needs to. Along with her playmaking skills, Lauren has a very powerful shot. When I first skated with the girls, Lauren impressed me right away. Not only is she a great hockey player, she is an even better kid. Lauren will be greatly missed next year but I could not be happier for her! Congrats Lauren!”
“I'm extremely excited to become a Raven and join the Franklin Pierce team,” White said. “I think it will be an awesome fit academically and athletically. I couldn't have accomplished my dream of playing college hockey without the loving support of my amazing family and all of the great coaching I have received at the Walpole Express.”
“Meg plays a huge role on our team,” Doherty said. “When joining the Express Meg informed me she was a winger but after watching her play and seeing her potential, I quickly moved her to center. Meg can play both positions extremely well. She positively impacts the team immensely on the ice. She is a very skilled player; she makes great plays and scores goals.”
"I'm super excited about going to Franklin Pierce next year and being a Raven," Gilbride said. "I really look forward to be going to a school that fits me all around and I'm so thankful for my family and the express for helping me along the way."
To this point in the season, the Express has 23 goals and 31 assists for 54 points in 18 games. Of those, 6 points (in 16 games) belong to Gilbride. She is currently tied with three other players for the second-leading scorer of team.
“Not only does Meg make a substantial impact on the ice she does so off the ice, as well,” Doherty said. “Even though Meg does not have letter on her jersey she has been an unsung leader. She brings such positive energy to the team.”
The entire Express Staff wishes both White and Gilbride nothing but the best. “Meg and Lauren committed to Franklin Pierce on the same day,” Doherty said. “They are the first two players from the Express to commit this year. Congrats girls! The Ravens are very lucky to have you! You both will be missed!”
