Walpole, MA - The Walpole Express premier team came away with two great wins this weekend by beating both the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs and Valley Jr. Warriors by a score of 4-1.
To start the weekend, the Express on Friday traveled to Hookset, NH to face the always-talented Monarchs squad. The Monarchs got on the scoreboard first, capitalizing on a 5-on-3 power play opportunity. Moments later Joe Hall came streaking down the wing to feed Zach Feldman in the slot for the equalizer. The Express never looked back, taking advantage of their power play opportunities. Goals came from Feldman, Hall, Tim Thurnau, and Michael Ferraro.
Connor Rodericks stole the show in net stopping 33 of 35 shots faced for his fifth win of the season.
“I felt it was a great team effort,” said Coach Jon Lounsbury. “The guys battled every shift and made smart plays to make the game easy.”
On Saturday the premier team returned home to Rodman Arena for their first game this season against the Valley Jr. Warriors. The Express set the tone early as they dominated Valley during the first period and headed into the locker room up 2-0. Rookie Ferraro started the scoring for the Express off a deflection from Feldman’s shot. A few minutes later Sam Topham found the back of the net off another Feldman pass. Walpole had momentum and used it to bury the Warriors 4-1. Rodericks was once again solid between the pipes stopping 32 of 33 shots faced.
“We had a great start,” Lounsbury said. “We still need to find a way to not let teams hang around once we get the lead. But at the end of the day it was a great weekend of hockey and I’m excited about what lies ahead.”
The Express are back home at Rodman Arena in Walpole, Mass. next Saturday for a 8:00pm tilt against the Boston Jr. Rangers.
