Posted: March 27, 2015
Walpole, MA - Walpole Express Head Coach Jon Lounsbury, who guided the team throughout one of its strongest seasons yet, was named the EHL co-Coach of the Year as voted on by his fellow head coaches. He shares the honor with Philadelphia Little Flyer’s Rockey Russo.
“Lounsey has been exceptional at building this team, helping the players gel and turn into a unified, motivated force on the ice,” said Walpole Express Owner Rob Barletta. “Last year the team really struggled. Jon used everything in his arsenal, from his hockey insight to his management skills to his tireless dedication, to give this year’s team the absolute best shot at success. And thanks to his efforts, they were, and enjoyed a great season.”
The players, particularly, were appreciative of Lounsbury’s efforts. Here they are in their own words:
"Jon is a personable coach, someone I've trusted and been comfortable playing for over the past couple of years. He helped me to realize that my dreams were possible through hard work. He not only pushed me regarding schools, but he pushed me every day on the ice. Without coach Lounsbury, I could have never achieved my commitment nor would I have enjoyed this past year so much.”
- Bryan Nelson, 2nd year Express defenseman, committed to Harvard University for 2016-17
"I'm very excited for Coach Lounsbury. Coming off of a tough season last year, he was able to lead our group of guys to a very memorable season. We benefitted from his upbeat, positive attitude, and appreciated the time he took every day to help us improve. Coach Lounsbury was able to bring a winning attitude back to the Express, but more importantly he cared about the well being of his players away from the rink. Congratulations!”
- Evan McCarthy, 2nd year Express goaltender, committed to D1 Miami University (Ohio)

- Frankie Cefalu, 2nd year Express forward, commited to University of New Hampshire
"Coach Lounsbury puts a lot of trust into his players and creates an environment that allows them to develop their game. He's very personable and works very hard to move his players onto the colleges that are the perfect fit.”

"I've had the pleasure to play for Coach Lounsbury the past 2 years and with his help and guidance I've developed as a hockey player and leader. Both years Coach Lounsbury developed a family environment within the team and I can say I've never been closer to my teammates. I'll always appreciate the chance Coach Lounsbury gave me to play for him, and I'll always respect and admire the leader and man he is."
