Walpole, MA - It has been quite the turnaround for the Walpole Express MJHL team. During the 2013-2014 season the Express were only able to manufacture 14 wins in 46 games. So far this season the Express have compiled a record of 14-4-1 giving them 29 points and a tie for the best record in the MJHL.
This past weekend the team pulled off two big wins to bring their streak to four in a row. On Saturday night the Express took out a hardworking CT Nighthawks team by a score of 5-2. The Express dominated the game from start to finish, piling 64 shots on the opposing goalie. Five different players registered goals and four players had a multiple-point game. Bryan Holmberg sealed the win in net by saving 18 of the 20 shots he faced.
On Sunday, the Express faced off against a tough Northern Cyclones team. The Cyclones came out flying and took the lead within the first minute. Holden Biebel tied the game up on a power play goal from Austin Minniger and Orion Linnehan. The Express never looked back, firing 52 shots on net and controlling the play for the rest of the game. Minniger’s goal in the second period proved to be the game winner in the Express’ 3-1 victory. Holmberg won his second straight game stopping 31-32 shots faced.
The Express travel to the Monarchs next Saturday at 8 pm and then return home for a division showdown against the Hartford JR Wolfpack on Sunday.
