Walpole, MA - Returning forward Mat Michie, ’95, has been named captain of the Walpole Express EHL hockey team for the 2014-15 season.
The Port Coquitlam, BC native played with the Express during the 2013-2014 season and served as an assistant captain for the club. According to Coach Jon Lounsbury, “Mat brings energy, leadership and character into the locker room each and every day.”
“It is truly an honor to be named captain,” Michie said. “I certainly didn’t expect this, but I am more than proud to represent the team and the organization both on and off the ice.”
Though only a junior-hockey rookie last season, Mat held the club together during a down year for the program. “Mat came to ‘work’ every day with his hard hat and lunch pail,” Lounsbury said. “I can honestly say there wasn’t one day last season that Mat took a drill off. His compete level is second to none and the entire team looks up to him as a leader. We are excited to have Mat back from the BCHL this season and we look forward to having him help lead the charge.”
“On behalf of the entire Walpole Express organization, we would like to congratulate Mat and his family on his accomplishment,” Lounsbury added. “We’re looking forward to a great season and Mat will be a big influence.”
