WALPOLE, Mass. – The Walpole Express named captains for the 2013-14 EHL season. Head coach and general manager Jon Lounsbury revealed the names on Monday afternoon.
Two of the names should sound familiar to Express fans: Defenseman Nic Cota, who will wear the "C" on his sweater, and Jamie Young, who was selected as one of two assistant captains. Both played for the Express last season. Newcomer Mat Michie was also selected as an assistant captain.
"It says a lot about the character of the players we brought back," Lounsbury said. “They're good quality kids and I think that's shown by their work ethic, and focus on the upcoming season."
Cota, from Bangor, Maine, anchors the Express D core along with Young, who hails from Russell, Ohio. Michie, is a forward from Port Coguitlam, B.C who joined the team from the Coguitlam Express in the BCHL.
"I have been super impressed with the way these young men think, act and compete on a daily basis,” Lounsbury said. “These guys lead by example each and every day to make sure our team competes at the highest level."
Express owner Rob Barletta shares Lounsbury’s confidence in the Express’ new leaders. “I am pleased that both Young and Cota have taken charge of the locker room this season and I look forward to getting to know Michie better as we move forward,” he said.
The Express face off against the Philadelphia Revolution this Sunday at 2:30 at Iorio arena. Currently 1-1, the Walpole men look to climb to the top of division standings early in the year with hopes of staying there for the entire season.« See All Junior News
