(Walpole, MA) -- Last night the
Walpole Express A team pulled out two points from the Jr. Wolf
Pack in Hartford in a tight up-and-down contest. The game was
scoreless through two periods as the Express sprayed 29 shots
on net but could not find a way to beat Hartford goalie Andrew
Begg. With just over 11 minutes to play in the third -- and
the Express killing off one of eleven penalties Walpole suffered
during the game -- Cody
Armstrong stole a blueline pass and went on a 2-on-1 with
Matt
Harrington for the the game's first goal. The score stayed
that way until the closing seconds. With Hartford’s goalie
on the bench for the extra attacker, the Wolf Pack tied the
score with just eight seconds remaining in regulation. No goals
during the five-minute OT sent the game into a shootout. Express
goaltender Derek
Kump stopped all four Wolf Pack shooters, while Lou
Malvasi and Steve
Charest scored for the Express giving the team the 2-1
win.
“Two points, especially on the road,” said Asst.
Coach Tony Dalessio. “I thought the game was a bit sloppy
from our perspective but we knew going in it was a tough building
to get points out of and the kids fought hard for that extra
point through both OT and the shootout.”
The Express head up to Rutland, V.T. to the Castleton State
College Showcase this weekend. the team returns to league action
on Columbus Day weekend at the AJHL Showcase in Hudson, N.H.
There, the Express will face the Philadelphia Little Flyers,
New York Bobcats, and Philadelphia Jr. Flyers. |
