| (Walpole, MA) -- The Walpole Express
A team earned a hard fought 3-2 win in Salem, N.H. last night
against the Bulldogs on the strength of a 37-save performance
by goaltender Derek
Kump and some overtime heroics by Lou
Malvasi. This was the Express’ second OT win on the
road against a divisional opponent. “Every game we play
in our division is tough and playing on a big ice surface like
that in Salem is always a challenge," Coach Mark Kumpel
said. "Our guys played hard and it was good to see Steve
Charest and Lou Malvasi get things going offensively.”
After a scoreless first period, the Express jumped out to
a 1-0 lead when Charest notched his sixth goal of the season,
assisted by Matt
Venoit and Michael
Steele. The Bulldogs answered just 3:12 into the third
period with a power play goal. Then, Venoit put the Express
up 2-1 with a power play goal of his own assisted by Charest
and Chris
Comprosky. The Bulldogs got the equalizer with just over
six minutes to play on a redirected dump in. The game headed
into overtime at 2-2.
Malvasi came through for the Express by finishing off a 3-2
break and beating the Bulldogs goalie to the blocker side.
With the 3-2 win, the Express took two points on the road.
All agreed with Kumpel when he said, “It was a good
win for our team."
The Express have little time for rest as they prepare for
a weekend home-and-home series against the Portland Jr. Pirates
on Friday and Saturday. |
