| (Walpole, MA) -- The Walpole Express
Jr. B team earned a pair of 5-1 victories over the Binghamton Jr.
Senators this weekend, closing out the six-game series 6-0. “We
have really come together as a team and obviously have had success
early in this season,” said B team Assistant Captain Jordan
Fragoza. “Every player on our team has contributed to our
success. We want to keep getting better as we get deeper into the
season, and focus on one weekend at a time.”
Express Owner Rob Barletta sees a bright future for both the B
and A teams. “I have been impressed with the early success
of both clubs,” he said. “Both teams have worked extremely
hard and their efforts have paid off with successful starts. I am
confident they can keep building momentum as the season progresses.”
Weekend Wrap-Up
For last weekend’s victories, the Express Junior B’s
once again relied on stingy goaltending from Zach Andrews on Saturday
and Joe Gladnick on Sunday, as well as some timely and effective
offense, to diffuse the Senators.
In Saturday’s game, the Express jumped out to 1-0 lead in
the first on a shorthanded goal by Chris Comprosky. There was little
the Senators could do to gain control of the game once Shaun Gould
recorded a natural hat trick in the second period. Georgiy Gurianov
added a late goal in the third to cap the victory. Andrews made
13 saves in net.
On Sunday, Matt Bletzer opened up the scoring on a nice give-and-go
from Will Harrop to send the Express into the opening intermission
up 1-0. In the second period, the team tallied three more goals
– two by Gould and another by Gurianov – to extend its
lead to 4-0. Dave D’Amico sealed the win with a fifth goal
scored with about four minutes remaining in the game. Joe Gladnick
earned his fifth win in net saving 18 of 19 shots.
“I thought we worked hard and took the play to the Senators
in both games,” said Coach Tony Dalessio. “We have an
off weekend coming up, which I think will help us recharge our batteries
and get some guys healed up before we face a tough eight-game stretch
in our division.”
Upcoming Games
After a week off, the B team will be back in action on November
1 and 2 when the team hosts North Division rival the Northern Cyclones
at Iorio Arena.
While the B team rests, the A team hits the road this upcoming
weekend for a Saturday night game against the Boston Bulldogs at
the Salem Ice Centre, and returns home on Sunday to face off against
the Northern Cyclones at Iorio Arena at 1 pm. |
