Both A and B Teams
Capture 11 of 12 Points
Weekend Showcase A
Success |
| (Walpole, MA) -- The Walpole Express
Junior A and B teams both had a big weekend on the road, taking
nearly all the available points in their respective showcases. “The
Express showed they can win on the road,” said Express GM
and Junior B Head Coach Tony Dalessio. “Certainly, we have
things to work on but it was a great feeling to achieve success
beyond our home rink.”
Junior A Wrap-Up
After a disappointing 2-1 loss in an overtime shootout against the
Binghamton Junior Senators on Friday night, the Express went on
to dominate the weekend with a 7-0 win against the Philadelphia
Little Flyers on Saturday and a 5-1 win against the Philadelphia
Jr. Flyers on Sunday. Charles LaChance was the Express’ top
scorer with three goals and five assists for the weekend. Steve
Charest had two goals and three assists, while Scott Gillespie,
Dino Federico and Matt Harrington each registered multiple points.
Goalie Rich Stine picked up two wins against the Philadelphia teams.
“We struggled to find the back of the net against Binghamton
but the offense picked up against both Philly teams and Stine was
good when he had to be,” said Coach Mark Kumpel. “We
have Portland coming to Iorio this weekend so we need to have strong
practices all week to prepare.”
Junior B Wrap-Up
The Express bested the New York Saints 3-1 on Friday and the Philadelphia
Little Flyers 5-3 on Saturday -- even though Dalessio admitted that
the team did not play its best in either game. "Though we weren’t
in top form, it was enough to win,” he said. The team also
won its non-league game against the Tampa Bolts (10-0) on Sunday.
Jordan Fragoza contributed three goals over the weekend, while
Jordan John posted one goal and three assists. JJ Carroll and Shaun
Gould each scored multiple points in the three games. Georgiy Gurianov
again showed he is one of the league’s top players by assisting
on the game winner against Philly and adding three goals and an
assist in Sunday’s game against Tampa. Blueliners Joobin Mozaffarimehr
and Chris Comprosky, who scored the game-winning goal against Philly,
also stepped up with their controlled yet forceful play. Netminder
Zach Andrews had another strong game, making 24 saves on 25 shots
Friday against the New York Saints.
“We’re pleased with our success so far but we still
have a lot we want to accomplish,” Dalessio said. “We
face a challenging opponent this weekend at Binghamton. They gave
us a rough time the first weekend of the season at our rink so we
need to pull it together and play with more urgency on the road."
Upcoming Games
Next weekend, the Junior A team returns to Iorio to face the Portland
Junior Pirates at 8:40 pm on Saturday, Oct. 4 and at 1 pm on Sunday,
Oct. 5. The B team heads to Binghamton to face the Binghamton Junior
Senators on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5.
