Express Hit the
Road this Weekend for League Play
Up and Down Weekend |
| (Walpole, MA) -- The Walpole Express
Junior A team aims to put last weekend’s twin losses behind
it when the team travels to Cromwell, Conn. this coming weekend
for the AJHL Showcase. They face the Binghamton Senators on Friday,
Philadelphia Little Flyers on Saturday and Philadelphia Jr. Flyers
on Sunday.
The B team will also be on the move as the team tries to follow
up last weekend’s wins with victories at the MJHL Showcase
in Hackensack, NJ. The team has league games against the New York
Saints on Friday and Philadelphia Little Flyers on Saturday. The
B team also will play a non-league game against the Tampa Bolts
on Sunday.
“Both teams are looking forward to getting out on the road,”
said Walpole Express GM/Coach Tony Dalessio. “We have been
at Iorio since mid-August with training camp, pre-season games and
the first three weekends of the regular season. It will be a good
challenge for both teams to gain exposure to the teams in the South
conference and see how we stack up against them.”
Junior A
The A team will have its work cut out after last weekend’s
performance against the Northern Cyclones. The A team lost 4-1 on
Saturday. The Cyclones took advantage of three power play chances
in the second period and that was the difference in the game. Erick
Vos scored the only Express goal and Rich Stine made 34 saves in
net.
On Sunday the Express team played much better and controlled play
for most of the game. Unfortunately Cyclones goalie Martin Clarkson
held the Express attack at bay making 36 stops. Zach Diltz scored
the only Express goal, his first in Junior A play. Stine made 27
saves in net.
“I thought we gave one away on Saturday, we were very undisciplined
and the Cyclones have too much fire power to continue to put them
a man up. Sunday I thought we controlled the play and it was disappointing
not to come away with at least a point.” said Coach Mark Kumpel
Junior B
The B team met with more success last weekend, beating the Hartford
Jr. Wolf Pack on Saturday 7-3. The game was tight most of the way
until the Express broke it open in the third period with four goals.
Zach Andrews made 40 saves in net. On Sunday, the Express won 10-2.
They led 3-2 after the first period and went on to dominate the
last two periods. Joe Gladnick made 23 saves in net.
Other B team standouts last weekend included Georgiy Gurianov,
with three goals and two assists; Don Coyle with two goals and three
assists; Jordan Fragoza with two goals and an assist; and JJ Carroll
with two goals and two assists. Jake Domos, Dan Bufis and Chris
Comprosky all scored their first-ever junior-hockey goals.
