(Walpole, MA) -- Both Walpole Express teams vanquished their weekend rivals in convincing form. The Express Junior A team beat the Laconia Leafs 5-2 on Saturday and 7-1 on Sunday, while the B team bested the Portland Junior Pirates 9-0 on Saturday and 9-1 on Sunday. Jr. A Head Coach Mark Kumpel and Jr. B Head Coach Tony Dalessio were pleased with the weekend’s outcome, but noted that their schedules would soon get more competitive. “Both teams have big divisional games coming into our building this weekend (Jr. A vs. Northern Cyclones and Jr. B vs. Hartford Jr. Wolf Pack) so we must continue to work hard and improve on some key elements before those games in order to remain successful," Kumpel said. “It was good to get the season started with some wins but we know how good the other teams are so we can’t rest on these early successes.”

Junior A Wrap-Up
In Saturday night’s 5-2 win against the Leafs Scott Gillespie posted two assists and netminder Rich Stine had 22 saves. On Sunday, Erick Vos scored two of the team’s seven goals, as did Charles LaChance. Cody Armstrong and Adam Korol each had two assists. Travis Owens notched his first win of the season with 24 saves in net. Also over the weekend, Steve Charest posted two goals and four assists and Matt Harrington had three goals and two assists.

Junior B Wrap-Up
On Saturday, Zach Andrews scored the first junior shutout with 20 saves in goal. Shaun Gould contributed two goals while Jason Methot delivered one goal and one assist. JJ Carroll had two assists. In Sunday’s game goalie Joe Gladnick had 23 saves. Jordan John delivered two goals and one assist; Will Harrop contributed one goal and an assist; and Jordan Fragoza had two assists. Overall, Georgiy Goriyanov was the team’s leading scorer with four goals and four assists in two games. Don Coyle had five assists during the weekend and Kevin Hanlon scored a goal in both games.

Divisional play begins next weekend at Iorio Arena in Walpole, Mass. as the A team faces off against the Northern Cyclones on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 8:40 pm and Sunday Sept. 21 at 12:40 pm. Also on Saturday, the B team meets the Hartford Jr. Wolf Pack at 8:30 pm and again on Sunday at 9:40 am.
