| (Walpole, MA) -- AJHL All-Star
and Walpole Express Captain Charles LaChance has committed
to play NCAA Division 1 hockey at American International College
(AIC) in Springfield, Mass. for the fall of 2009. This past
season, the left-shot LaChance was one of the league's top
forwards, averaging over a point per game.
"We are exceptionally proud of Charles," said
Walpole Express Assistant Coach/GM Tony Dalessio. "Head
Coach Mark Kumpel and I are confident that Charles possesses
the skills - like tremendous offensive ability -- needed to
succeed at the D1 level."
"I want to thank both Coach Dalessio and Coach Kumpel
for everything they have done for me this past season,"
LaChance said. "I learned a great deal from them throughout
my time in Walpole and they put in a lot of hard work to enable
me to fulfill my dream of playing D1 hockey. They have carefully
guided me throughout this process and for that I am truly
grateful."
LaChance was originally set to play DIII at Oswego State,
but that changed when AIC showed interest. "I heard from
AIC later in the spring and decided to explore that opportunity,"
LaChance said. "Fortunately, it paid off for me in the
end and I'll now be able to achieve my goal of playing D1."
"Mark and I are excited for Charles, " Dalessio
said. "He showed tremendous ability and character while
in Walpole and worked hard to become a better player and exceptional
leader. He also played an important role in helping us change
the atmosphere and enhance the work ethic in Walpole over
this past season. His contribution will be felt throughout
our program for some time."
The AIC Yellow Jackets kick off the 2009-2010 season at
Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. on Oct. 23, 2009.
