| (Walpole, MA) --
Beginning Friday, February 12, the Walpole Express and the
Iorio Arena will host the annual AJHL/MJHL joint Showcase
in Walpole, Mass. This is the third consecutive year they
have hosted this exciting joint event. Fifty games will be
played over three-plus days, kicking off on Friday at 2:30
pm with a slate of seven games. “We look forward to
this event and enjoy welcoming our fellow members of the AJHL
and MJHL," said Iorio GM Rob Barletta. "This is
an exciting time in the season as teams jockey for playoff
spots and national bids so we are sure to see some exciting
hockey.”
The Express A team will get things going on Friday against
the Philadelphia Little Flyers at 4:00 pm. On Saturday they
will play a tough Washington Jr. Nationals team at 3:30 pm,
and on Sunday they suit up for the biggest game of the weekend
against the New York Bobcats at 2:00 pm.
The B team faces top MJHL competition beginning on Friday
when they meet the Little Flyers B team at 6:30 pm. On Saturday,
the Express B's face the MJHL-leading Central Penn Panthers
at 7:30 am, and Sunday they meet the MET-South top performer
Atlanta Knights at 8:00 am.
“This is a big weekend for both teams," said Express
GM/Coach Tony Dalessio. "Our A players are looking at
it as two points at a time, but there is no overlooking any
of our opponents. Our players have done a great job of taking
one game at time all season and there will be no better time
to take that approach than this weekend."
“The B team also has a big weekend," he added.
"They have played 16 straight on the road and will be
excited to get back on home ice. I know Saturday’s game
against Central Penn will be special given Mike’s (Tenney)
relationship with Andy (Scott, Central Penn Head Coach).”
