MET North All-Star Game

-- Former Central Penn coaching colleagues Andy Scott and
Mike Tenney will face each other this weekend in the MET North
All-Star Game as the head coaches of the Dowd and Francis
Divisions respectively. Tenney, who is currently the head
coach of the Walpole Express, worked along side Scott last
year as an assistant coach with the Panthers.
“Mike came to us before the start of the 2008-09 season
looking for a new coaching challenge. He jumped right in as
an assistant with us (Panthers) and as an assistant with the
Hershey Jr. Bears 16U AAA team. He impressed immediately with
his knowledge of and feel for the game. He demonstrated a
real passion for coaching”, stated Scott. At the end
of a successful campaign last year that saw the Panthers win
the Keegan Cup and finish second at Nationals, Tenney was
poised to take over the reigns as head coach of the midget
team until fate intervened.
Panther’s head coach Andy Scott explained, “In
mid-August I got a call from Tony Dalessio (Walpole Express
GM) asking if I knew of anyone capable of taking over the
recently vacated head coaching job with the Express Jr. B
team. I didn’t hesitate to recommend Mike – I
felt he was definitely ready for the challenge.” Tenney
joined the Walpole team at training camp and currently has
them in first place in the Francis Division. “It was
tough to lose Mike at that time of the year, but it was definitely
the right move for him developmentally. We work closely with
Walpole as our Jr. A affiliate and it just seemed natural
to move a coach there in addition to our three former players
now with the Express Jr. A team (Jake Brightbill, DJ Dinnison,
and Wes Heinle).”, said Scott.
While Scott and Tenney are looking forward to the All-Star
Game match-up, both have an eye on February 13th when Walpole
and Central Penn will face each other for the second and final
time this season at the MJHL President’s Day Showcase. |
